Our first season of residents ​in the books! Call for Residents ! 2026 applications now live

In the spirit of a new year turning we wanted to catch you up on our happenings over the last year of getting this weaving residency off the ground. Tanglehaven is a weaving residency born out of the catastrophic loss of our dear friend, beloved troublemaker and teacher, Jess Green. It’s now been just over two and a half years since Jess’s unexpected death from a rare, aggressive cancer. The residency was started with the intention of carrying on Jess’s spirit, ideology and weaving legacy. The residency uses the looms Jess left behind and is housed in a historic bathhouse building she bought in Troy NY just before passing. Immense thanks to all who donated to the go fund me that has financially supported this project, we couldn’t have done this without your contributions.
Tanglehaven’s first operating year saw tremendous growth as our organizing group learned the ins and outs of hosting residents. Our initial set up required some serious heavy lifting from our Troy crew in preparing the space, familiarizing ourselves with Jess’s equipment, and supporting each artist’s needs. (Special shout out to our MVP Eloise who estate sale-d so much necessary furniture, spatial styling and much of our Troy based hosting - you’re a gem among gems.)

From the 16 artists who submitted applications in the spring, we welcomed a total of 7 artists to the Bathhouse for 5 sessions between June and October - four single weavers and two groups of two. Some residents hosted offerings such as performances, workshops, potlucks with their time, others helped us get our bearings with equipment needs, others shared conversations and studio space. Mid season we ended up purchasing an additional loom to better serve our residents. We updated our current loom offerings on our website take a peek if you’re curious! Our Residents included

• Pando Reeps - a weaver, dyer, builder, dreamer, artist from New Mexico who had our inaugural residency.
• Claire G McClusky and Andie Burkey - Rochester natives who filled the space with plant based processes and music.
• Maya Djiji - a multi-disciplinary artist from LA who works in bright colors and various time intensive processes (including tapestry weaving).
• Catherine DeGennaro - a self taught textile artist, musician and radio enthusiast based in Brooklyn wove a weaving that picked up a radio station using 3 conductive materials in their warp.
• Rakel Stammer & Sludge Thunder of Kingston merged textiles, painting, puppetry, printmaking, sculpture, ceremony, and ritual to share in the process of learning new skills, honor their affinity with the Trickster archetype, and follow desire.

At the start of this year, Tanglehaven’s organizing body convened at the Bathhouse for our first in-person meeting to reflect on the triumphs and failures of our inaugural year and to plan the year to come. In 2026 we’re excited to be offering three month-long residencies in June, August, and October. Stay tuned through our next newsletters and Instagram page (ig: @tanglehaven) for more announcements.

We are giddy to announce that the application for 2026 is officially live!!! Please help us send out this call for applicants to weavers far and wide. Please note that even though we are primarily a weaving residency we’re also accepting applications from artists working in other mediums as well.
